Pre-requisite: Two Level 1 classes must be completed prior to signing up for any Level 2 class.

Class Description: We are now breaking out the jewelers' saw. Sawing metal sheet into the shapes you desire is and essential skill. Learn to make two earrings exactly the same size in one sawing operation. You'll learn to prepare sheet metal from start to finish. You'll learn how to anneal sheets of metal and why and when you'll need to anneal your metal. We'll use a type of rolling mill to impress a surface pattern to the cut shapes. You'll learn to contour the shapes without losing the pattern in the metal. You'll make your own jumprings and balled headpins in a finer gauge of wire for the beaded dangles. You'll learn various ways of achieving color with fire patinas and how to get an antiqued look by polishing back the raised surfaces of the pattern. We'll review forming earwires and show how to make a kidney shaped earwire.

General Notes for all the Metalsmith Workshops: Your class fee includes supplies. It is our goal to have you walking out with a completed item or nearly completed item by the end of class. As always in Tippy's classes, use of tools is included. There's nothing you need to bring as a general rule. For metalsmith class you may be asked to purchase your own N95 face mask available at Ace Hardware. All the other safety equipment is provided including a shop apron and safety glasses. Please wear natural fiber clothing and closed toed shoes. Keep your hair tied back and any dangling jewelry, sleeves or ties way from your hands and face. We ask that you stow your personal belongings away from your working area to provide an unobstructed path to the door and sink area.
