Pre-requisite: Two Level 2 classes must be completed prior to signing up for any Level 3 class.
Class Description: I'm very excited to offer this beginning Prong Set Stone pendant project. What a useful skill to add to your designs. It's another look that you may choose as you decide how to enhance the presentation of the stones you choose. This option will enable you to add larger stones or found objects into your work.
Note of what not to do: Look at the photo of the sample and you will see that I forgot to take off the price tag. It was a clear label which escaped my attention initially. The edges of the label have begun to corrode making it more noticeable. The fix for this problem is to lift the prongs, remove the stone, clean up the metal and reset the stone. Unfortunately, this stone has cracked and I'll be starting all over looking for a new stone that fits the setting. It's much easier to design the setting around the stone for this technique. But I thought I would share how to learn from failures as well as successes.
General Notes for all the Metalsmith Workshops: Your class fee includes supplies. It is our goal to have you walking out with a completed item or nearly completed item by the end of class. As always in Tippy's classes, use of tools is included. There's nothing you need to bring as a general rule. For metalsmith class you may be asked to purchase your own N95 face mask available at Ace Hardware. All the other safety equipment is provided including a shop apron and safety glasses. Please wear natural fiber clothing and closed toed shoes. Keep your hair tied back and any dangling jewelry, sleeves or ties way from your hands and face. We ask that you stow your personal belongings away from your working area to provide an unobstructed path to the door and sink area.
