Level 3: Cabochon Ring

Pre-requisite: Two Level 2 classes must be completed prior to signing up for any Level 3 class.
Class Description: Learn to put a cabochon set stone onto a ring. There are two versions of this ring. The first one as shown is made of a purchased bezel cup. If you come to class empty handed, this is the version you will make. If you want to do some homework ahead of time, come with your own artisan made bezel and stone in hand. Do not set the stone in place. Leave them apart. Just have it completed to the point where the bezel is soldered down, saw out the shape from the backplate and pre-finish the metal edges. If you want to work in something other than copper, then bring 3" of ring wire you want to use. In class, you'll learn how to shape the ring shank, get it to fit and how to solder it to your cabochon.
General Notes for all the Metalsmith Workshops: Your class fee includes supplies.It is our goal to have you walking out with a completed item or nearly completed item by the end of class. As always in Tippy's classes, use of tools is included. There's nothing you need to bring as a general rule. For metalsmith class you may be asked to purchase your own N95 face mask available at Ace Hardware. All the other safety equipment is provided including a shop apron and safety glasses. Please wear natural fiber clothing and closed toed shoes. Keep your hair tied back and any dangling jewelry, sleeves or ties way from your hands and face. We ask that you stow your personal belongings away from your working area to provide an unobstructed path to the door and sink area.
